Songs of Fire

From a single spark, fed the tinder of hollowed decay

A ruddy glow is birthed in the sacred rite of flame

The waltz of heat and light scatters flitting shadows

            from clefts in the dirt

Cords of ocher beauty in each step

Peppered tongues of scarlet and citrine lick the air

Hungry to feed upon me, upon you, upon bouquets of knotted crocus

Upon anything that might stay the ravenous appetite

            blistering within

A dissonant flicker in cherry eyes

Cackles of popping bark and pine needles sputter

Symphonies of slated ruby and opal

A siren’s song encrusted in the ashes of the phoenix

         heralding the light of rebirth

The dawning of the age of humanity

To harness the living synthesis of flesh and blood

To breathe the smoke thickened wildfires of the soul

To cradle the embers of divinity in cosmic renaissance

To kneel at the blackened feet of recycled stars

burning again as they had eons ago

These are the songs of fire
